Scout (“we”, “our”, “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data responsibly.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the rights you have under UK GDPR.

1. Who We are

Scout operates the website https://yoscout.co and provides metadata/structured-data automation services.

As we are not yet an incorporated company, Scout currently processes data under the responsibility of the site operator.


2. What Data We Collect

We collect the following categories of data:

a) Account Information

When you sign up:

  • Name (if provided)

  • Email address

  • Password (hashed & salted; never stored in plain text)

  • Any domain names you add to your account

b) Website Crawl Data

When you add a website, we collect and process:

  • Page URLs

  • Page HTML

  • Metadata (title, description, Open Graph tags, meta tags)

  • Structured data (existing JSON-LD / schema)

  • Crawl timing & change logs

We store only what is necessary for generating your metadata and delivering insights.

c) Usage & Analytics

We may collect anonymised data about how you use the app, including:

  • Pages visited

  • Buttons clicked

  • Time spent in the dashboard

  • Error events

This helps us improve Scout.

d) Payment Informartion

Payments are processed securely by Stripe.
We do not store your full card details.
Stripe may store:

  • Card type

  • Last 4 digits

  • Expiration date

  • Billing address (if required)

Stripe acts as an independent data controller for payment processing.

e) Email Communications

Emails (alerts, onboarding, notifications) are delivered via Postmark.
We store:

  • Your email address

  • Delivery status

  • Email open events (only if your email client reports it)

We do not track email content or behaviour beyond delivery performance.


3. How We Use Your Data

We use your information to:

  • Provide and operate the Scout platform

  • Crawl your website and generate structured data & metadata

  • Monitor changes to your site and notify you

  • Maintain your account and subscription

  • Improve performance and reliability

  • Detect, prevent, and mitigate misuse

  • Send essential service emails (no spam)

We do not use your data for advertising.
We do not sell personal data or crawl data.


4. Legal Basis For Processing (GDPR)

We process your data under the following lawful bases:

  • Contract — to provide the service you signed up for

  • Legitimate Interests — to monitor usage, prevent abuse, and improve the platform

  • Consent — for optional communications or cookies

  • Legal Obligation — for complying with tax/financial reporting when needed


5. Sharing Your Data

We only share your data with trusted subprocessors necessary to run Scout:

External Providers

  • Stripe — payment processing

  • Postmark — transactional emails

  • Analytics provider (if applicable — e.g., Plausible or similar, can be added later)

  • Hosting provider (e.g., Vercel, Supabase, etc. – let me know who you’re using and I’ll insert)

These providers process data on our behalf and comply with GDPR.

We do not:

  • Sell data

  • Share data with advertisers

  • Transfer your crawl data to unrelated third parties

6. International Data Transfers

Some of our service providers (e.g., Stripe, Postmark) may process data outside the UK.
When this happens, they rely on:

  • UK GDPR adequacy regulations, or

  • Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs)

All transfers are compliant with UK law.


7. Data Retention

We retain your data only as long as needed to provide the service:

  • Account data: For as long as your account is active

  • Website crawl data: For as long as the domain remains connected

  • Logs: Typically 30–90 days

  • Billing records: Up to 7 years (legal requirement)

You can request deletion at any time.


8. Your Rights (GDPR)

You have the right to:

  • Access your personal data

  • Correct inaccuracies

  • Delete your data

  • Export your data

  • Restrict or object to processing

  • Withdraw consent (where applicable)

  • File a complaint with the ICO (UK regulator)

9. Cookies

Scout may use cookies or local storage for:

  • Authentication

  • Session management

  • Analytics (if enabled)

We do not use third-party advertising cookies.

A Cookie Policy can be created upon request.


10. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including:

  • Encrypted connections (HTTPS)

  • Hashed passwords

  • Secure hosting infrastructure

  • Access controls

  • Regular monitoring

No method of transmission is 100% secure, but we take reasonable steps to safeguard your information.


11. Children's Privacy

Scout is not intended for users under 18.
We do not knowingly collect information from children.

If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or in the dashboard.
